Online Training:
Volunteers have the option to train online at www.irs.gov - the Internal Revenue Service's website (search for Link and Learn). The training at Link and Learn is divided into various modules: basic, intermediate, advanced, military, etc. Volunteer tax return preparers for VITA only need to pass the basic module. The student is given 2 chances to pass. The passing grade is 80%. Those who are interested in using this method of training will need to request an online training kit from the Program Coordinator before beginning the online course.
Flexible training:
This year, organizations or community groups can arrange for their own training sessions. These training sessions will utilize a set of DVD's of the training sessions at Chaminade. These DVD training sessions will be delivered by a facilitator who will be able to answer questions and assist the volunteers with learning the IRS' software. Facilitators are limited so interested organizations should make arrangements as soon as possible.
