Online Training:
Volunteers have the option to train online at www.irs.gov - the Internal Revenue Service's website (search for Link and Learn). The training at Link and Learn is divided into various modules: basic, intermediate, advanced, military, etc. Volunteer tax return preparers for VITA only need to pass the basic module. The student is given 2 chances to pass. The passing grade is 80%. Those who are interested in using this method of training will need to request an online training kit from the Program Coordinator before beginning the online course. The online course for 2008 is not yet available.
Flexible training:
This year, organizations or community groups can arrange for their own training sessions. These training sessions will utilize a set of DVD's of the training sessions at Chaminade. These DVD training sessions will be delivered by a facilitator who will be able to answer questions and assist the volunteers with learning the IRS' software. Facilitators are limited so interested organizations should make arrangements as soon as possible.
