The due date for federal returns for Tax Year 2017 is Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
The following provisions are expired (cannot be claimed) for Tax Year 2017:
- Exclusion from gross income of indebtedness due on qualified principal residence
- Deduction for qualified tuition and fees (in Adjustment section of Form 1040)
- Residential energy credit (credit for non-business energy property)

HAWAII’S NEW EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT
In July 2017, Governor Ige signed into law a State Earned Income Tax Credit. Unlike the federal EITC, the State credit is non-refundable which means that eligible taxpayers will benefit from the credit only if they owe taxes on their return.
